Passwords

The LMS has a password recovery system. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it by clicking on the Forgotten your student number or password? link on https://learn.mbse.ac.za/login/.

Unfortunately we cannot reset passwords and email them since this poses a security risk.

If you do not receive emails from learn.mbse.ac.za, it is your firewall that blocks them. We cannot accept responsibility for emails not received. We check regularly that they are sent. Whitelist this server so that you will receive the emails. Ask your IT department to help you in this regard.

2. Re-mark and Appeal

MBSE recognises that, from time to time, the Learner being assessed may not be satisfied with the result of the assessment conducted. MBSE makes provision for two separate processes in order to deal with these complaints:

  • Re-mark process
    • MBSE requires all learners to formally apply for a remark and pay the applicable fee.
    • The assessor will re-mark the learner's assessment and formal feedback is provided to the learner by the operational manager.
    • If the learner is still not satisfied with the result of the re-mark, he/she will be able to lodge an appeal.
  • Appeals process
    • MBSE requires all learners to formally apply for an appeal and pay the applicable fee.
    • The moderator (as stipulated) will re-mark the learner's assessment and formal feedback will be provided to the learner by the operational manager.
    • If the matter is still not resolved, the learner can formally write to the MBSE Day Management Committee for further action.
  • Note that the fee paid for the re-mark and/or appeal will only be refunded if the assessment decision is overturned to indicate a pass instead of a fail.
  • Where a student is attempting any assessment for the second or third time, no re-marks on any previous assessment attempts will be allowed.
  • All requests for re-marks or appeals must be submitted to MBSE on the required application form (with proof of payment of the required fee) within 10 working days of release of results.

3. Non-Attendance

MBSE incurs costs for all booked seats at exam venues. For this reason, the applicable fee will be charged as a penalty where a student does not attend the scheduled assessment. However, the penalty can be avoided provided that the student notifies MBSE in writing at least 12 working days before the scheduled date.
In addition to the penalty payable for non-attendance, any scheduled assessment date, regardless of whether the student attends or not, is counted as an assessment attempt.

4. Re-Scheduling

A student may apply to re-schedule (or get an extension for) an assessment if an acceptable valid reason exists to prevent the student from attending/handing in on the scheduled date.
Students must apply to MBSE in writing on the required application form (with proof of payment of the required fee) at least 12 (twelve) working days prior to the scheduled date.
In cases of unforeseen circumstances that are out of the student's control, the student must apply to MBSE in writing on the required application form (with proof of payment of the required fee) as soon as possible.
All requests will be considered by the Day Management Committee and the student will be notified of the outcome by the operational manager.

5. Bridging Examination

The bridging examination details will be communicated to the student during the registration process.

6. Credit Analysis (Applicable to Further Education ONLY)

A fee will be charged for a credit analysis to be completed to determine which unit standards can be offered in order for a student to obtain a full qualification. Should the student decide to continue his/her studies with us, the analysis fee will be credited towards the first registration.

7. Concession Application (Applicable to Further Education ONLY)

A concession application request may be submitted once all of the applicable unit standards have been completed towards the FETC qualifications and a learner qualifies for the language/mathematic exemptions. The application will be submitted for verification with INSETA.

8. Oral Assessment

Oral assessments are available on the summative only (only available to people with reading and writing disabilities; medical certificate required).

Payments

  • Methods of payment: EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) or cash deposit at bank. No cash or cheques accepted.
  • The Finance Department will send a quotation and approve the online registration as soon as payment is received.
  • Payment must be done within 30 (thirty) business day after registration is completed or by the given deadline, per Learning/skills programme. The quotation will expire after 30 days and a new quotation needs to be issued.
  • Ensure to use your quotation number as reference when making the payment. Ensure that you use the correct banking details (as indicated on the quotation.)
  • Payments will only be allowed for one skills/learning programme at a time. Thus, the full qualification cannot be paid in advance.
  • Proof of payment must be submitted to the Finance Department, after receiving the quotation. Note that no study material will be released before proof of payment is received. If additional fees apply; you will not be allowed to write a re-assessment or submit a formative without the relevant payment being made.
  • If your employer is making payment on your behalf and they require a tax invoice for payment (as opposed to a quotation), this may be requested from your project coordinator.
  • Fees paid are not transferable to another student; be that the student is from the same company or external.
  • In exceptional circumstances MBSE may allow the course fees to be paid in 2 (two) instalments. The first instalment must to be paid before any learning material may be received and the second instalment must be paid before the scheduled assessment date. • In case of a cancellation after registration, but before material is received, a 50% cancellation fee will apply.

Attendance, Submission & Completion

  • A student has 6 (six) months to complete each learning/skills programme and up to the prescribed timeframe indicated per qualification to complete the full qualification. If the qualification is not completed in the stipulated timeframe, a request for extension may be submitted to the Day Management Committee. All such requests will be deliberated according to merit. A maximum however, of 36 (thirty six) months will be allowed.
  • If a student is not able to attend an assessment date as scheduled, he/ she must provide their project coordinator with the reason at least 12 (twelve) working days before the scheduled assessment. If this is not done within the scheduled time period, the non-attendance fee mentioned in clause 3, will apply.
  • If a student does not attend an assessment for which he/ she was scheduled, and such a student is absent without a valid reason*, the non-attendance fee will be charged for that assessment. Due to the fact that the student missed the assessment, the student can write on the re-assessment date or another scheduled assessment date pre-arranged with their project coordinator. MBSE will not be able to schedule an individual assessment for one student. Note that if the re-assessment date or pre-arranged date is not attended, the non-attendance fee will apply.
  • Scheduled/ communicated assessment dates are compulsory.
  • Any assessments missed/ deferred will be regarded as an official attempt
  • If a student does not submit his/ her formative assessment on the date communicated, the student will not be permitted to write the summative assessment and the non-attendance fee will apply.
  • Note that an assessment will only be arranged in an outlying area should an assessment already be scheduled in that region. The main assessment centres as follows: Sandton and Pretoria (Gauteng), Cape Town (Western Cape), and Durban (KwaZulu-Natal). Specific dates will be communicated per programme.

  • MBSE will not be held liable for any postal, mailing/ couriering of letters and/ or certificates and/ or material/ workbooks/ case studies. Letters will be e-mailed and certificates can be collected at MBSE's Brooklyn/Stellenbosch office. A student may instruct a courier to collect his/ her certificate/ documentation at his/ her own cost. MBSE will not be held liable for any damages or loss of above mentioned.
